USES
Slingco’s insulating blankets are intended to be used to cover irregularly shaped energized devices that can not be otherwise properly covered. The Slingco insulating blankets are also used to protect workers from accidental contact with live electrical conductors, apparatus, or circuits.
These blankets are typically kept in place using blanket clamps/pins or blanket magnets and are often used in place of other protective devices such as insulator covers, cut out covers, line hose, and even dead end covers. Slingco does not recommend leaving the blankets installed overnight.
INSPECTION
Blankets shall be visually inspected by a user’s designated person before installing in the field to ensure that each blanket being used is being maintained and in good working condition. The blankets shall be inspected in intervals no larger than every 6 months. Blankets with any of the following defects shall not be used and shall be returned to an electrical testing facility for testing and inspection.
PROPER DISPOSAL
Blankets that have been determined to be unusable shall be defaced, cut, or marked in a way as to indicate that they are not suitable for service. Unusable blankets must be disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental control regulations.
PERIODIC TESTING
Electrical insulating blankets, even if held in storage, shall not be used unless they have been electrically and/or inspected within the past 12 months.
